I like how they recalled this memory - of his love or his wife's love for red.

Our friend girl has emotionally BLACKED OUT.
She is completely broken at this point.

Oh How I loves this sorrowful scene.
It shows the difference in a generation.
The Elder generation were taught to persist and be patient - remaining whole in misery - which is more painful than being broken.
The Younger generation - allowed themselves to be broken and miserable - which gives a bit more freedom.

FL & MIL - can communicate their sorrows for each other with understanding. Not yelling, not hating, just accepting their own pain. Understanding each other. MIL understands her DIL is in pain and that her son is a jerk. Yet she mourns what her son's manhood as he wakes up to cook his own birthday breakfast. DIL - understands her MIL's pain so she hugs her and comforts her - not allowing her to suffer alone. They are suffering together with a little unintentional healing towards each other.

I really enjoyed this scene - because it really displays the vast differences in generations and human relationships.
