Yong An Dream
永安梦
Jiejie’s Take
Oh, another historical drama where a canal collapses and a minister gets jailed? Classic. But wait, the prosecutor is having *dreams* about the minister's daughter? That's a rather convenient way to kick off a romance while solving a national crisis. Let's see if their 'deepening bond' can actually catch the 'real mastermind' before everything falls apart again.
Synopsis
When the West Canal collapses, the capital city of Yong'an is thrown into disarray, leading to the imprisonment of Minister of Works, Shen Wen Qi. His daughters, Shen Ran and Shen Zhen, are swept into the ensuing chaos. The sheltered but clever Shen Zhen soon finds herself entangled in a conspiracy. Concurrently, imperial prosecutor Lu Shi Yan, who is investigating the case, is plagued by recurring dreams of a woman who turns out to be Shen Zhen. Despite his initial reservations, he seeks her out. As they collaborate to uncover the truth behind the canal's collapse, their relationship deepens, but a hidden mastermind threatens their efforts and their future.
Retitled - Lu Shi Yan's Dream
Trifecta! Political corruption, balanced humor, and supernatural romance - pulled of in only 24 episodes.
I really enjoyed this - it pulled me in with the friendships, relationships, maturity, and growth. My favorite thing should have been the humor, but the maturity is what truly stayed with me.
Our cast journeyed this out well—both the younger and older actors. Everyone did great in their roles. Our 2 male leads did not fight for the screen; they worked beautifully together.
The Women — 4 women not fighting over the same men, not chasing men who do not want them, or being spoiled brats. Instead, they were working together and mastering their own arenas (doctor, fighter, support, and whatever we want to call our female lead—she was doing a lot 😂). It really makes me wonder if having Tang Wai Yan as a female director is what brought this incredible balance, cooperation, and empowerment.
The Parents — Non-toxic parents in an Asian drama is like finding a $1,000 bill 😆. I won't forget them!
The Gripes — I have exactly one complaint. They threw in an amnesia plot when it was totally unnecessary and added absolutely nada to the story. Why do that?
BTW - this was a rewatch. Since I have a bad memory - it felt like a new drama to me.
LOL - I only recalled one scene - the bloodletting scene - if you watch it it will be memorable for you too. I GUARANTEE!
