Jiejie’s Take
Sarcastic Warning: Contains Maximum Tropes. We have a genius official seeking revenge for a decade, a shadowy organization, and a convenient political coup—it's the classic drama bingo! Naturally, he gathers a dream team of a general, a swordsman, and a strategist to fight the man who killed his daddy, turning state politics into a very personal, very bloody family affair.
Synopsis
The narrative unfolds during the Wude era, an unstable period that saw the dramatic fall of the ruling emperor and the ascendancy of the powerful feudal lord Xiao Wu Yang. Following this coup, the formidable Huben Dark Guards, who previously controlled the capital city of Chang'an, seemingly dissolved alongside the deposed sovereign. Persistent whispers suggest that the vanished leader of the Huben, Yan Feng Shan, intends to leverage the dethroned ruler to further his own mysterious ambitions.
Appointed by the newly empowered Xiao Wu Yang, the astute official Xie Huai’an from Huainan is assigned the crucial mission of utterly eradicating the Huben remnants. This task perfectly aligns with Xie Huai’an’s personal quest for vengeance; he has spent a decade meticulously preparing to confront Yan Feng Shan, the man responsible for his father’s death.
Utilizing the exiled emperor as a strategic piece in his complex political game, Xie Huai’an orchestrates a powerful shadow alliance. He brings together the military prowess of General Gu Yu, the lethal skill of the swordsman Ye Zheng, and the sharp intellect of the strategist Han Zi Ling. Their collective effort initiates a ruthless, clandestine campaign against the Huben forces, setting the stage for a grand conflict whose resolution will ultimately determine the destiny of the entire empire.
