Sageuk can depict kingdoms and periods such as Goguryeo, Goryeo, or Joseon, and it may focus on rulers, war, court politics, ordinary life, medicine, law, or social change. Modern “fusion sageuk” combines period settings with romance, comedy, fantasy, or contemporary storytelling styles.
How dramas use it
Common elements include palace hierarchy, royal succession, scholar-officials, military conflict, class restrictions, hanbok, historical institutions, and conflicts between public duty and private feeling.
