Zhu Yan is the leader of all demons, whose true form is a white ape, who volunteers to surrender himself and disguises as the human Zhao Yuan Zhou to help form the Demon-Hunting Bureau after the goddess Bai Ze's death throws the human and demon realms into chaos. His adopted human name is taken from the deceased brother of Zhao Wan'er, Wen Xiao's teacher. He carries deep inner conflict from a demonic "menorrhagia"-like affliction that triggers destructive rage, is destined to be enemies with the Bai Ze goddess by nature, and was once best friends with the demon Li Lun before the two turned against each other eight years prior to the story.

Wen Xiao is the disciple of the deceased goddess Bai Ze and later becomes the new Bai Ze Goddess herself, a member of the Demon-Hunting Bureau. Wary and suspicious of Zhao Yuan Zhou from the start, she joins the bureau alongside her childhood friend Zhuo Yi Chen, and gradually grows closer to Zhao Yuan Zhou despite their destined opposition as demon and goddess. Half of the Baize Token is later discovered to be hidden within her, tying her directly to the fate of both realms.

Zhuo Yi Chen is the leader/commander of the Demon-Hunting Bureau, skilled in both detective work and swordsmanship, and Wen Xiao's childhood friend. He is a descendant of Bing Yi, an ancestor who was once a demon but became revered as a god and was granted human form after killing evil demons, meaning all of Bing Yi's descendants, including Zhuo Yi Chen, carry a hidden trace of demon blood preserved in a crystal. His clan is later destroyed by Li Lun's manipulations, deepening his resolve against the demon threat.

Pei Si Jing is a former member of Chongwu Camp and a skilled archer who joins the Demon-Hunting Bureau specifically to find the whereabouts of her missing brother, Pei Si Heng. Aloof and detached on the surface, she becomes suspected of being a spy within the team at one point, straining her friendship with Wen Xiao despite their earlier bond.

Li Lun is a powerful demon born from an ancient pagoda tree with the ability to possess other living things, most frequently Bai Jiu. He was once Zhu Yan's closest friend, but the two turned against each other eight years before the story begins, resulting in Li Lun being sealed away by the Bai Ze goddess. Freed partway through the series, he schemes against the Demon-Hunting Bureau from multiple angles, allying with Zhu Yin, before ultimately dying and being granted the chance to reincarnate by Zhao Yuan Zhou.

Bai Jiu is a 13-year-old prodigy doctor, timid but highly capable, who serves as the healer for the Demon-Hunting Bureau. He becomes a target of the demon Li Lun, who repeatedly possesses his body over the course of the story, and his mother Bai Yan is later revived as part of the series' unfolding events.

Ying Lei is the grandson of the mountain god Ying Zhao, who left his grandfather behind at Dahuang, the peaceful land where demons live, in order to pursue his dream of becoming a chef among humans. He develops deep feelings for Bai Jiu and ultimately sacrifices his life to save him.

Pei Si Heng is Pei Si Jing's younger brother, who has been weak and sickly since childhood. He is deceived by the demon Cheng Huang and turned into a puppet under his control, used against his sister. In the end, Zhao Yuan Zhou uses a secret technique to preserve his soul within the puppet body so that he can remain with his sister.

Wen Zong Yu is a supporting character connected to Wen Xiao's story who at one point poisons Li Lun, holding the only cure, giving him significant leverage within the conflict against Li Lun's schemes.

Ao Yin is a shapeshifting demon deeply in love with Li Lun, always hoping he would remember her true form even while she took on other appearances. She ultimately dies to save him, her devotion never fully reciprocated or acknowledged by Li Lun in the way she hoped.

Master Qi is a supporting character connected to the Qi family within the Demon-Hunting Bureau's storyline. Specific plot details about his individual role were not found in available sources beyond casting.

Ying Zhao is a mountain god and the grandfather of Ying Lei. Ying Lei leaves him behind at Dahuang, the peaceful realm where demons live, in pursuit of his own dream of becoming a chef among humans.
